Putt Putt on a Budget
I've written about the proposed putt putt course in Ballston several times on this blog. I don't know why, but the subject just interests me.
So, times are tight now, and the subject is coming up again. Seems like there is still some interest, but it's getting a little more oposition.
What do you think about a putt-putt course in Ballston?

Not nearly as dumb as the black box theater and funeral home at the "Club at Quincy" project.

There was a putt putt golf one block away 10+ years ago that went out of business. There is a putt putt golf less than 2 miles down the road at 7 corners.
These putt putt golf courses tend to be dull - play them once or twice, why play them again. There is a putt putt golf course at East Potomac Park that gathers nothing but leaves.
Why not a really nice park? It could be a park with games. Maybe chess tables. Maybe petanque / bocce ball courses (like near pentagon city). Maybe volley ball court. A basketball court. A playground.
It would probably be easy to build something that cost less to build and maintain then putt putt, and becomes a nice gathering point. It is certainly a well trafficed corner - and having greenery and trees and stuff would certainly be a good thing. Leverage the traffic that is coming the the Mall and the Ice Rink and build something nice.

I love minigolf and would definitely go if they put one at Ballston. I agree that there is close by already, but this one would be metro-accessible.

I can't argue with Bob's case for a basketball court, but I think Ballston's changed enough over the last decade or so that the area could now support one. However, I do wonder if there will be enough foot traffic in that area with all the car dealerships/repair shops/rental places.

Boo, mini golf. It is so boring after you've played it a couple times. (or while playing...) A park would be better.
