How I Know Fall is Here

Some people know fall is here when the leaves change colors.

I know fall is here when it's too cold for Carpool to have the garage doors open:

Carpool's fun in the summer when there's a nice breeze blowing. But when the doors come down, it's a little too smoky to be enjoyable.

Oh well. I'm off to my walking-distance bar scene winter retreat -- the smoke-free places in Clarendon.

what's the status on carpool? there've been rumors swirling that they are closing (due to new construction at that location) for the past year.

Back in 2006, there was talk of building condos on that location and moving Carpool to a nearby site. But that was before the housing market slumped. I can't find any evidence the plans have advanced since then.

I just called over to Carpool and the guy I spoke with says he's been hearing rumors of Carpool's impending demise for seven years now. He says he doesn't even worry about it anymore. So I guess neither should we!

No Unlimited Beer 2008
Posted by amywhite829 on Oct 03, 2008
It would have been 4 stars, but- From a friend, also confirmed by me when I called Cap City today:"Due to changes requested by the Virginia ABC, the event will no longer provide unlimited beer sampling for a flat fee. New this year, all attendees will pay for 10 sample tickets. There will be NO additional tickets available for sale. However, Cap City will be featuring 5 of their beers at $2/pint throughout the day inside the restaurant."I called Cap city last night to confirm this and the guy there said the same thing. So I hate to be the downer but I was disappointed when I found this out. I went last year when it was unlimited and had a great time but $25 for 10 4oz samples (equals to about 3 beers) seems a little steep to me."
