CAPS Fan Fest - July 12

Let's go Caps! Let's go Caps!

I love the Caps. Ovehckin, Semin, Greenie, Backstrom. Who doesn't love the Caps?

If you're a Caps fan too, here's a great opportunity to meet some players.

Join the Caps for a day filled with hockey, skating, autographs, interactive games, an equipment sale and much more.

July 12 marks the culmination of the Capitals Development Camp and will include a scrimmage between the camp participants from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the Capital rink. S

elect Capitals draft picks will even sign autographs for fans immediately following the scrimmage!

Center Brooks Laich will be signing autographs and the chairman and majority owner Ted Leonsis will join Laich to host a question and answer session with the fans.

Enjoy a free public skate from 12 to 3 p.m. and kids can try the moonbounce, a slap shot cage and an inflatable obstacle course. Slapshot, the team mascot will also be there!

Free Public Skate and Trophy Viewing

I'm a big CAPS fan, and this has been a very exciting year for the CAPS.

If you work in the Ballston area (or work non-traditional hours) here's your chance to have a free ice skating trophy and view all the awards Ovechkin and company have accumulated this year.

What: Free public skate and trophy viewing

When Friday, June 13, 11 AM - 12:30

Where: Kettler Capitals IcePlex

Why: Free skating and Fans will have the opportunity to view and take pictures with the Art Ross Trophy, the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy and select other major trophies that the Capitals may win the night before at the NHL Awards Show in Toronto.

Capitals left wing Alex Ovechkin already claimed the Art Ross (leading scorer) and Richard (leading goal scorer) trophies, and Washington has three finalists for awards that will be presented Thursday night: Ovechkin (Hart Trophy, Lester B. Pearson Award), Nicklas Backstrom (Calder Trophy) and Bruce Boudreau (Jack Adams Award).

CAPS practice?

Yesterday, after checking out the CAPS schedule online the day before, I headed over to the Kettler Capitals IcePlex in Ballston to check out their practice - free and open to the public.

Except when I got there, no one was on the ice. So, I asked the nice person at the desk and she said that practice had been cancelled that day. I suspect that had something to do with their massive collapse against the evil Penguins the night before - I don't know, just my speculation. So, I dropped my head and left.

So, that to say, two things:

1)CAPS practices are free and open to the public at Kettler Capitals IcePlex in Ballston. You can view the schedule online -times are usually around lunch so it makes a good lunch break.

2) Before heading over there, you might want call the facility first or check the website again.

All together now ... "C-A-P-S CAPS, CAPS, CAPS"
